Cook It Forward is a collaboration between local restaurants and local nonprofits to create an end-to-end distribution network to tackle food insecurity in Madison. We are partnering with Downtown Madison restaurants to produce healthy, fresh meals for insecure families, seniors, and people with disabilities. The meals will be safely created, individually packaged, and delivered to local food banks, pantries, and other sites, serving as an intermediary. Last-mile distribution partners will ensure that the growing number of individuals and families who need the food, and without recourse to access it, receive it.
Food provisions would be provided to local food banks, community centers, and “last-mile” delivery providers.
This effort would help support food insecure Madisonians as well as our independently-owned restaurants and their ecosystems including: farmers, distributors, restaurant employees, delivery drivers, and their employees.

Last-Mile Service Providers
CIF represents a new community response strategy that relies on outside dollars, new partners, and different delivery systems. Our success is measured by our ability to uplift all in the Cook It Forward Network. Our first goals are:
- To deliver 50,000+ healthy meals to those in need, especially among communities of color who are disproportionately affected by the pandemic.
- To generate $500,000+ revenue for participating restaurants, which will flow to restaurant employees, local farmers, and distributors
- To provide a mechanism to rehire or retain hundreds of hired or retained restaurant workers.
Cook It Forward is a program under fiscal sponsorship of the Center for Community Stewardship, a Madison-based 501(c)3 non-profit organization. This sponsorship enables donations to be tax deductible.
